2019 UPDATED KNOWLEDGE :
This video shows how to size a CONSTRUCTOR BRUSH to reduce the amount of WORK required to clean with maximum efficiency. To keep it short, our goal is to CHALLENGE YOUR THINKING with a SIMPLE PRINCIPLE.
This video focuses only on the principle of sizing the brush, and also comparing to using PENCIL JETS. We do not address effective AGITATION (that is another video) - the call ‘it’s clean’, refers to what is needed for regular cleaning. If you have first-time cleans or annual cleans, use this knowledge and REPEAT the AGITATION CYCLES as required to effect a clean. If you are cleaning the frames, treat the frame separately.
If your windows are 30” wide, and you are using a 16” brush, you can:
FOLLOW THE LEFT FRAME, FOLLOW THE RIGHT FRAME, and your brush will overlap in the center, giving you FULL COVERAGE in two actions.
If your windows are 30” wide, and you are using a 12” brush, you need 3 sets of actions - that’s 50% more distance your brush needs to travel to get full coverage!
This is 50% more WORK, as the scientific definition is WORK = FORCE x DISTANCE travelled - in this case, the force is the same, but the brush travels 50% more distance.
How is this massive increase in EFFICIENCY all possible ? Hydrophobic Glass (repels water) behave HYDROPHILIC (cascades water) to effect a perfect rinse in the down-stroke. When you use PENCIL JETS, the water is repelled, so you cannot get a CASCADING RINSE, and, as you cannot see with the human eye, the difference between dirty water that will leave spots, and spot-free water, you need to be EXTREMELY ACCURATE to effect a spot-free rinse.
Let’s take another example : A window 40” wide takes 3 passes with a 16” brush and 4 passes with 12” brush - that’s 25% more WORK!
Observe yourself, CHALLENGE YOURSELF - study your technique - don’t study Water Fed Technique at heights - study your brush technique NOSE TO GLASS - then raise the brush with your water fed pole and TRUST YOUR TOOL!
Increasing SPEED increases HOURLY RATE - it’s that simple! As a professional, you need to choose the right tool to reduce WORK, and you need to choose the right amount of FORCE and DISTANCE to effect a clean - don’t focus on the exception - focus on the RULE - and you will increase your EFFICIENCY incrementally!
