WINDOW WEAPON RESULTS :

STAINLESS STEEL WOOL : BRUTAL

STAINLESS MESH : CUTTING - it definitely gets ‘under’ stuff, however, you may need to ‘finish’ with an ALL-ROUNDER (hence the logic for ‘RELOAD’ GUNSLINGER for WINDOW WEAPON) or MICROFIBER, to ensure no lines.

MICROFIBER : GOOD, but not aggressive - ideal for adding detergent and cleaning hydrocarbons.

WHITE NON-SCRATCH PAD : EFFECTIVE, but not matching the aggressive SCRUBS on non-water-solubles.

GREEN RUBBER : Very nearly as good as STAINLESS MESH !

CONCLUSION :

Nylon Bristles ‘scratch’ at the surface. Pressure is limited to the splay of the bristles.

SS MESH and SS WOOL ‘scrape’ at the the surface, getting UNDER the non-water-soluble particulates.

RUBBER MAT ‘grabs’ at the particulates with a much higher friction co-efficient.

The KEY to success is actually 12 sq inches of SCRUB on the glass. The bigger the PAD, the less pounds per square inch is on the glass.

Converted floor mops and brush blocks, do not work the same - compare the square inch surface - a 9x4” floor mop is 36 sq inches, 3 x more surface area, needing 3 x more force, for the same result!

We had a ‘HANDS-ON TRAINING DAY’ in Perth, Australia last week - here is the Q&A explaining the in-depth aspects with experienced Window Cleaners. This level of training is interesting to, but not intended for beginners of Water Fed Window Cleaning.

2019 UPDATED KNOWLEDGE :

This video shows how to size a CONSTRUCTOR BRUSH to reduce the amount of WORK required to clean with maximum efficiency. To keep it short, our goal is to CHALLENGE YOUR THINKING with a SIMPLE PRINCIPLE.

This video focuses only on the principle of sizing the brush, and also comparing to using PENCIL JETS. We do not address effective AGITATION (that is another video) - the call ‘it’s clean’, refers to what is needed for regular cleaning. If you have first-time cleans or annual cleans, use this knowledge and REPEAT the AGITATION CYCLES as required to effect a clean. If you are cleaning the frames, treat the frame separately.

If your windows are 30” wide, and you are using a 16” brush, you can:

FOLLOW THE LEFT FRAME, FOLLOW THE RIGHT FRAME, and your brush will overlap in the center, giving you FULL COVERAGE in two actions.

If your windows are 30” wide, and you are using a 12” brush, you need 3 sets of actions - that’s 50% more distance your brush needs to travel to get full coverage!

This is 50% more WORK, as the scientific definition is WORK = FORCE x DISTANCE travelled - in this case, the force is the same, but the brush travels 50% more distance.

How is this massive increase in EFFICIENCY all possible ? Hydrophobic Glass (repels water) behave HYDROPHILIC (cascades water) to effect a perfect rinse in the down-stroke. When you use PENCIL JETS, the water is repelled, so you cannot get a CASCADING RINSE, and, as you cannot see with the human eye, the difference between dirty water that will leave spots, and spot-free water, you need to be EXTREMELY ACCURATE to effect a spot-free rinse.

Let’s take another example : A window 40” wide takes 3 passes with a 16” brush and 4 passes with 12” brush - that’s 25% more WORK!

Observe yourself, CHALLENGE YOURSELF - study your technique - don’t study Water Fed Technique at heights - study your brush technique NOSE TO GLASS - then raise the brush with your water fed pole and TRUST YOUR TOOL!

Increasing SPEED increases HOURLY RATE - it’s that simple! As a professional, you need to choose the right tool to reduce WORK, and you need to choose the right amount of FORCE and DISTANCE to effect a clean - don’t focus on the exception - focus on the RULE - and you will increase your EFFICIENCY incrementally!

2019 UPDATED KNOWLEDGE :

This video shows how to use a CONSTRUCTOR BRUSH with maximum efficiency, taking the same principles you learnt for efficient use of a SQUEEGEE. Full coverage of the glass in 4 movements, repeat as required for first-time cleans, or change to a more aggressive brush like WINDOW WEAPON if there are non-water-soluble concretions or excretions on the glass.

Because CONSTRUCTOR Brush has ‘BLADES OF BRISTLES’, we can use them like a Squeegee blade. Observe that the bottom blade takes dirty water off the glass while the HYDRO-BLADE leaves the spot-free water on the glass. This is SO DIFFERENT TO EVERY OTHER BRUSH - you are taught to ‘chase the dirty water off the glass with the jets’ which is so disastrous when dealing with glass that repels your water streams.

ROUND CORNERS IN SQUARE CORNERS work better at an angle than square corners (well - at an angle, it’s not a square corner in a square corner - the side of the brush triangulates the corner) - that’s why we don’t have square ends on a CONSTRUCTOR BRUSH!

HYDROPHOBIC GLASS BEHAVES HYDROPHILIC as a result of the top blade breaking the surface tension of the glass, and HYDRO-BLADE JETS joining together as one, inheriting the broken surface tension (you can't do this if the water falls straight through your brush).

By the way, we use the frame as a 'dry reference' in this video, however, if you do want to clean the frames, it's the same technique - angle the brush on the frame, do not rinse above the 'agitation line'.
