rat snake images Rat Snakes Hunting Bats in Texas, May 2018

Great plains rat snakes hunt bats (cave myotis) in a central Texas cave. This is a selection of video clips from one week in May and the predator/prey game will go on for the rest of the summer season. This bat population is just now beginning to grow and usually ends up with around18-20 thousand bats using the cave as a roost each summer. I have no idea how many snakes use this cave and the easy food source each year but probably more than I realize. This is only one of two directions the cave goes and it is the smaller of the two but has easier access to set the camera.
